If capacity growth accelerates as forecasted from about 10% to 15% annually, this could yield an extra £44 billion in GVA, create 40,200 operational jobs plus 18,200 construction jobs, and contribute an additional £9.7 billion in tax between 2025 and 2035.

The data centre sector makes an enormous contribution to UK prosperity and will continue to grow exponentially.

What does a data centre do?

Data centres are specialised facilities that store, process, and distribute data for businesses, governments, and other organisations. As the backbone of the internet and cloud computing, they are considered critical national infrastructure — essential for ensuring modern digital services operate reliably and securely.

What’s inside a data centre?

IT Systems: Servers, storage arrays, and networking hardware

that run and connect digital services.

Support Infrastructure: Power supply, backup generators,

cooling, and security systems that maintain uptime and

protect assets.

Monitoring & Management: Tools and protocols that ensure

performance, resilience, and cybersecurity.
