Innova and Low Carbon Contracts Company (LCCC) visit Carn Nicholas Solar Park

Find out more about Innova and LCCC’s tour of Carn Nicholas and the role of the CfD in unlocking investment into renewable energy in this news article

In July, Innova hosted LCCC on a site visit to Carn Nicholas Solar Park in Swansea.

The visit included a comprehensive tour of the solar site by Innova’s Operations Management team and also provided the perfect opportunity to discuss the role of CfDs in the success of renewable energy initiatives.

Slavi Stoencheva, LCCC Legal Advisor, said:

“It was really insightful visiting an operational solar farm and learning about the challenges the project has faced, as well as learning about Innova’s other projects.

“The views were wonderful, and it was great to hear Innova’s compliments towards LCCC as a counterparty and the contract management team.”

Agne Bukauskaite, LCCC Contract Manager, said:

“Visiting the Carn Nicholas solar site in Wales was a remarkable experience. The lush, rolling hills and the stunning sea view provided a beautiful backdrop to the solar panels.

“The Innova team greeted us warmly, and the operations manager gave us an insightful tour of the site, explaining the innovative technologies behind their impressive energy production.

“The day was not only educational but also filled with camaraderie and shared enthusiasm for a sustainable future. Over lunch, we further discussed their upcoming CfD Milestone, cementing two-year rolling relationship between LCCC and Innova, as well as a collective commitment to low carbon energy.”

Andy Peyman, Head of Energy Sales at Innova, said:

“It was a privilege to host the Low Carbon Contracts Company at Carn Nicholas, Innova’s first site to benefit from CfD support.  The CfD is a crucial mechanism to unlock investment into renewable technologies across GB, and LCCC do a fantastic job in helping to manage the scheme for those projects which have CfD support.

“The visit was a brilliant learning opportunity for LCCC and those on the commercial side of Innova to properly see a working solar site, and how it all fits together to provide zero carbon power to the grid.  The site team did a great job in showing us around a site they are clearly very proud of.”

About LCCC and Innova

Innova were awarded CfDs on three of its solar sites (Carn Nicholas, Manor Farm, and Stokeford) in July 2022.

LCCC are responsible for managing the contracts on behalf of the government and have regular contact with Innova to stay on top of and manage the various obligations undertaken by generators under the CfD contract.

About Carn Nicholas

Carn Nicholas is a 10MWp solar array in Swansea, Wales. Developed and constructed by Innova Renewables, the site was energised in 2023 and is expected to generate clean electricity sufficient to reduce around 4,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent emissions annually1.

The site was acquired by ISG Renewables – the strategic partnership between Innova and Schroders Greencoat managed solar funds – in April 2023.

[1] Assumes that renewable generation replaces the marginal generator, which in the UK is assumed to be CCGT with a carbon factor of 0.4tCO2/MWh generation (IEA). The CO2 equivalent emissions annually is calculated by multiplying 0.4tCO2/MWh by the expected annual generation (MWh).
